I don't necessary think that the person that started this thread was insulting these girls! She was simply asking a question. What happened to the team that once was.

I understand that administration separated the team(s). I understand that girls quit. I understand that these girls have worked very hard because I too have a UCHS Cheerleader. She chose to not be a part of the basketball squad this year, not because of coaches or administration. But I'm encouraging her to pick it back up next year. However, it was a little disappointing sometimes to see our squad with 5 - 6 girls on the sidelines especially when last year we had at least 12 - 15. Big difference there, especially when it comes to the projection of sound. You put 5 - 6 girls up against someone like Claiborne (and we all know that all the girls that live in Claiborne are on their cheerleading team - what do they have 50 or something like that lol) seriously, they have a very large squad. My suggestion would have been that we could/should have put both squads (Red squad and Blue squad) together (especially for the bigger games like Gibbs and Claiborne).

There has to be a solution for the longer season to help these girls from getting "burned out." Yes the ball players have to be at every game, but they don't play every game. They play in one game. The girls are cheering constantly. I think one solution would be to have alternates rather than having 2 squads. You have 5 - 6 girls that will alternate with the girls on the team and these girls wouldn't get as "burned out" if they weren't cheering at every game. I do think they should still have to attend the game and support the teams playing and the cheerleaders, but they would have a night off. Maybe someone can check with some of the area coaches and see how they handle their basketball season. One in particular that I know of that uses alternates during basketball season is Bearden. Maybe someone should call their coach and see how it works for the team.

CHEERLEADERS - You did a great job representing your school this season - basketball and football.

GO PATRIOTS!
