What I was really worried about before Season 8 began was that they would force GA to "carry" the show during the Mulderless eps, then do several Scullylite eps once Mulder had returned. Since I feel (as do many other X-Philes) that the interaction between Mulder and Scully is what makes XF a great show, it would have seemed almost pointless to have DD come back for half the season if all he was going to do was run around with Dogsbreath, Skinner and the Gunmen while Scully sat home being pregnant.
As for GA's decision to do a ninth season - as a fan, I think it stinks. From a personal perspective, I suppose she thought it was better to be able to spend a fair amount of time with her daughter this year and next year, rather than be almost totally separated from her all this year in return for being able to spend all her time with her next year. That would be a really tough decision for any mother to make. I also think it is, just generally speaking, harder for women to make the jump from TV star to movie star and maybe GA feels she has to milk XF for all it's worth and build up as much financial security as she can before the show goes off the air.
Is GA's ex-husband Canadian? Is that why Piper is going to school in Vancouver?
I'm *STILL* hoping XF ends as a TV show this year. If we do get a ninth season, I hope DD agrees to return for at least some of the eps. The ratings have been okay. XF was always a top 35 show during Seasons 5-7 and the highest rating a Mulderless ep has achieved so far this season is 38th.
