Subject: Okay, so if Mrs. Mulder not saying anything to Mulder about Samantha is unspeakably cruel...
In reply to: krh 's message, "SF, desperate..." on 04:21:05 02/17/00 Thu

wouldn't it also be "unspeakably cruel" for Scully not to voice her suspicions to Mulder? On this side of the screen we know (or at least we're supposed to believe) that Mulder has finally found his sister for real, and although Scully surely senses it, she doesn't really know it. Under normal circumstances she DOES make sure her POV gets out there, it's her job. I disagree with detoured, who said that she wouldn't need to say anything in this case because Mulder is the only one who this affects. Yes, Scully's integrity will make sure that the people she works with and the people she helps are given realistic assesment of their problems, but I think she'd be even more sure with Mulder to make sure he goes in with both eyes open. (the boy does need help sometimes) "Implicit passivity" or not, it's too soon for her to tell Mulder that she's not really sure about his sister. Will she tell him? I don't know. Maybe she'll just let the wound heal and allow the incongruencies of the explanation to fade away?

I know what you mean, but I don't think that Scully was being passive or subservient in this ep. (??) It really wasn't the right time to bring up the reasons she didn't believe. I think they had to go all the way down this path before they could try another one. That said, this WAS a Mulder-centric episode, and Scully was immediately put in a secondary role. Which is one of the reasons why Scully's meeting with CSM could have been, should have been so much better!! Even in that scene, she was just relaying information to Mulder. Stupid scene!

I think the writers are going to have to do a lot of backpedaling to explain the clones and how this fits in. Maybe during the course of the tests that were performed on Samantha, CSM and Co were able to clone her. One of the things I really liked about Amor Fati was that the Samantha in Mulder's dream was different than the Samantha clones. Unlike you, I DID mind the starlight theory because it was so weakly supported, but that's on another board. I do agree with you about how frustrating it is not to have relevant issues incorporated into the explanation.

> I'm not one who wants MSR (msr is fine with me)
LOL! That's my stance too. I once said that I trusted CC to take the relationship where he wanted (but look where he took Samantha! and look how he got her there!). I think I'll still say that. I know this isn't about msr, but I can't see Scully with anybody but Mulder and vice versa. I don't want the msr to take over the show or my thoughts about TXF. Alas, I think *CC* may believe that resolving Samantha was necessary for the the msr to progress. He is leaning that way this season, don't you think?

hairytoes, happy that someone is talking to her
