I remember when the days were long
And the nights when the living room was on the lawn
Constant quarreling, the childish fits
And our clothes in a pile on the ottoman

Summer had come and gone and in all honesty, he couldn't be happier. It was nice to have a little bit of down time and a chance to catch his breath, and Hawaii had been fabulous, but by the end of August he had definitely been ready to get back to the grind. His classes this term seemed to all be pretty decent - huge numbers of course, but staring out at a sea of eager, enthusiastic faces was always encouraging. The downside to this new term was a new crew of TAs - of course they were all helpful and seemed promising, but it was a little less fun than having Keilani around. Though, he was interested to see if that proverb about absence making the heart grow fonder could hold some truth. Seeing as they had spent nearly every moment of every day attached at the hip for the past few weeks, it was almost nice to be way from her so that he could think about her and miss her and anticipate seeing her again. His last class of the day had ended a few minutes early, so he was just in his office with the door open - finishing up some notes and whatnot because he knew that he wasn't going to be into doing them by the time he got home. The radio playing softly in the background, he tapped the end of his pen against the desk as he skimmed through a passage in a textbook, squinting a little in the dim light of just his desk lamp - he preferred the near dark to the blaring brightness of the overhead light. His tie was tossed over one of the visitors chairs, on top of a sweater and the top couple buttons of his shirt had been undone - giving him the perfect look of a young, dedicated professor at the end of a long, full day....
