Subject: 24 season finale

The finale had its ups and downs, I think. Sort of like the entire season. At the second commercial break I realized that I wasn't nearly as tense as I thought I should be, but by the end I was on the edge of my seat as usual.

I thought the murder of Saunders by Gael's wife was ridiculous. Are we supposed to believe that not only do they allow her to clean out Gael's desk in the middle of a national crisis, that they allow her to take a gun with her? I suppose it served to move the plot along, but really.

Poor, poor Jack. He is such a tragic hero. He watched Tony choose his wife over his job and Chase choose Kim over his job, knowing that he can't go back. He can't choose anyone over his job, and he wouldn't. I think his breakdown at the end was not only the release after a horrible day, but misery at his own detachment. But in the end, life goes on and Jack goes to interogate someone, now over 24 hours without sleep.

The final scene between Tony and Michelle was great. I love those two so much. Tony just accepts his fate. Michelle is safe, and that's good enough for him. Hot kiss too.

Palmer chooses not to run for re-election. And thus concludes the 24 personnel purge.

So what do we think is going to happen next year? Here's a scenario:

In one of his last acts as president, Palmer pardons Tony. Unfortunately he can't get clearance again after what he did, so he spends his days as a stay at home dad while Michelle takes over his position as head of CTU. In the middle of the day, Michelle runs home for a quickie because she just can't stay away from Tony for very long. While she's gone, CTU falls apart as a terrorist organization, led by Chloe, takes over. Michelle can't trust anyone but Jack (who was out getting coffee and donuts when the takeover occurs) and Tony, and the three of them set out to save the day.

Meanwhile, Chase and Kim shack up and together raise Chase's daughter, Angela. Chase works a desk job and everyday bangs his head against the wall because he gave up his life's work for a girl he's been dating for three months. Kim realizes she only liked Chase because of her Daddy Complex and now that he's out of the field she has no use for him. Not to mention he only has one hand and that's, like, icky! She stays with him, though, because she feels guilty. They're both miserable. Kim's plot consists of her calling her dad because she can't get in touch with Chase and Angela just won't quit crying! Chase, meanwhile, who is at the recently taken over CTU, attempts to single handedly (ha!) stop the takeover, not knowing that Jack, Michelle, and Tony are working on it from the outside.
