Ok, I admit it. I watched the first two episodes of Desperate Housewives. Even more, I admit that I liked it. It's sort of a campy look at soap operas from what I've seen so far. In the first episode, one neighborhood housewife (Sue Ellen Mishke) commits suicide and from then on serves as a narrator for the show. The other housewives find a cryptic letter written to Sue Ellen Mishke that might explain her suicide, and they set out to figure it out. The husband of Sue Ellen Mishke has his own secrets, as he is seen digging up a trunk from his backyard and tossing it in the river. A new man in the neighborhood says he's a plumber, but hidden in his house is cash, guns, and detailed maps of the neighborhood. Mixed in with the mysteries are four women (three married, one divorced) and their struggles. One has a husband who doesn't pay her any attention because he's always off completing big business deals. Another's husband is frequently away on business, leaving her with four small children. The third is obsessed with making herself look perfect but won't ever talk about any real emotions, leading her husband to ask for a divorce. The fourth is a single mother who has a little crush on the Plumber/Secret Agent Man. It's all very entertaining. I only started watching it because it got great reviews and Matt Roush (who's opinion I almost always agree with) absolutely loved it.

I've heard on several websites that if Desperate Housewives continues to do very well ratings-wise, ABC will most likely leave it where it is and find another time-slot for Alias. Alias has been declining in the ratings of late anyway, and it's speculated that it only does as well as it does because it doesn't have much competion against anyone other than HBO. Matt Roush suggested that they move Alias to the 9 p.m. time slot after Lost, since Lost is doing really well and would likely boost Alias' ratings.
