Subject: A TV trend that's already becoming cliche

Reading over the descriptions of a couple of new shows that sound kinda/sorta interesting ("Fringe" and "Eleventh Hour") I've noticed a trend that seems to be quickly becoming a cliche. It's that the main woman is the law enforcement official and the main man is some sort of computer genius/math wizard/scientist/whatever who is very smart but kind of geeky and needs this kick-ass woman to "protect" him from all the bad guys who would exploit his intelligence for evil purposes.
This is the same set-up they have in "Chuck." It was also the set-up in "Dark Angel", although in DA it made a bit more sense because the man was actually handicapped (confined to a wheelchair after being shot in the pilot ep) and the woman had been genetically engineered to be super-strong.
I can't say that I'm a huge fan of this sort of "role reversal" relationship where they man is the one always going "Eek, save me!" and the woman is the one with the martial arts skills, weapons training, etc.
Now I'm NOT saying I necessarily want to see 21st century TV shows repeat the themes of Superman and Lois Lane, where the big, strong man was always coming to the rescue of the damsel in distress.
But I would prefer something more along the lines of "The X-Files" or "JAG" where both the main man and the leading woman are equally skilled in self-defense and can watch each other's backs and take turns being the rescuer and the one who needs rescuing. And, politically incorrect though it may be to say so, the average man *is* bigger and stronger and than the average woman.
A little gender parity, please!
