The fall season so far

So. . .what's happening with the fall TV season so far?
Any breakout hits? Anything already been cancelled?
I really haven't seen much about whether this season is going great or horribly.
I'm not watching any new TV shows myself; partially because nothing really appeals to me and partially because I'm just sick and tired of discovering a show I love in September and having it cancelled in December. There are a couple of shows that look kinda/sorta interesting, but I'll wait to see if they're still around in January before I commit to watching them.
(Interesting side note: have you noticed that shows are very rarely cancelled after one full season? If a show isn't cancelled after the first 10 or 12 eps, it's generally guaranteed to run at least two full seasons.)
