Hi BDM
DW was quite big here as it was on at 6:30 every night without fail for years. And when you only have 2 TV channels and there's only the news on the other one, lots of kids watched DW. I always liked Pertwee and Baker best. I watched Davidson because I always liked him in All Creatures Great and Small so you could call that loyalty. But those that came after I did not go much on. Didn't mind Colin Baker. My main problem with those eps after Romana left was that I could not stand the companions. That simpering Nyssa and I really couldn't stand daggy old Adric. Didn't mind a bit when he carked it. Didn't like Tegan. Stupid whingeing Aussie. Then there was that yank, Peri. Couldn't stand her either. I also got the impression that DW was not big in America and putting her in was meant to please and increase the fan base there. I find it odd now though that Yanks are really into the conventions and many DW actors go there alot to talk at them. Elisabeth Sladen goes to America alot. She came here once yrs ago and why I did not go to Sydney to see her, I don't know. Not sure when it was so I may have lived too far away at that time. I thought I knew when that was but I think I'm mistaken now.

I remember watching Patrick Troughton as DW when I was about 6 when staying with my grandparents. My grandmother watched it. I've always been amazed at that. My mother always says she wonders how I turned out to be like I am into fanstasy and sci fi etc because noone in our family is like that, so perhaps that's where it comes from. My grandmother's closet watching of Dr Who, lol. I have all the eps bar the first on tape because they played them before this new series started. I really enjoy them. ONly 3 stories of PT are left. I love the William H ones. Don't go much on Susan but then she's a 60's girl so you expect her to be helpless and screamy. Love Ian and Barbara. I don't ever judge the old shows or companions because they are relics and products of their time. I guess I see the Pertwee and T Baker ones like that too now. Especially when the Doctor arrives on the Arc, pulls out a drawer and exclaims "Microfilm!" I don't like to acknowledge the datedness or mistakes. I like to stay in the story , or in character so to speak and really believe that the bubble wrap really is Wyrrn slime :-) Although.... I am enjoying the docos and commentaries of the DVDs and that gives you a reality check. I must say that Hand of Fear is my favourite.Along with Brain of Morbius and Pyramids of Mars. Genesis is one of my not so faves. I think because Sarah was separated from them alot and I missed the banter between her and the doctor and also her and Harry. I liked Harry. I wanted him to stay in it longer. I need to get Pyramids of Mars. I was not aware that it has been out for a while. Perhaps it came out after ARc in Space.

A hypnotic scene would have been great in the new ep. I just would have liked to see a bit of gusto with Sarah. Even a few of her reactions and sayings thrown in but then we have different writers now and as she has said in interviews, the writers she had back in the day were the best. They were too. She credits them with the success of her character and I suppose of Tom's too. I would have liked Rose to have learned more about what Sarah actually experienced with the Doctor. Separated from the Doctor on dangerous planets, sacrificed, blinded, chryogenisised, kidnapped by a giant robot, almost had her neck broken by a mummy, bitten by a cyber matt, nearly crashing into a planet, nearly ejected into space alive, nearly blown up, the list goes on. It would have been nice to see some of that "getting out of a tight fix" stuff, but I did enjoy that new ep, if only because of her.

I am looking forward to increasing my toy collection. I want the remote control K9. Have wanted a dalek for ages but they are quite expensive. I saw a dalek bottle opener in the shop the other day and also a little LCD dalek game. I am having some fun getting back into it again. I had grown away from it but I'm touting this new interest as my mid life crisis and what a great way to have one of those!!
