Subject: "Murder at the Presidio" (TV movie)

This was a made-for-TV movie that aired on cable last
month; so I'm not sure if it belongs here, but. . .good in some ways but confusing in others.
It had Lou Diamond Phillips as an Army detective and I always like him. But the plot involved a soldier who'd killed his wife
so that he could marry his pregnant girlfriend. They NEVER
explained why he simply didn't divorce her (they had no kids and
lived on an Army base, rather than owning a home, so it seems
like it would have been a fairly easy divorce) rather
than getting involved in a complicated murder-for-hire scheme. At
one point LDP's assistant/love interest even asked "Why would he
bother to have her killed? Why not just divorce her?" but nobody
ever answered that question.
If the movie had been set in the 1950s (when divorce might have hurt his career advancement) I suppose the plot would have made sense. In the 21st century, there was simply no credible motive for him to have killed her.
