Well, regarding the Monday Night Football spot, I see your point IG. However, in an old George Carlin routine he pondered that he'd rather his kids see 2 people make love than kill each other. I was just in Europe & you should see the sex on their TV & yet they are not falling into anarchy as a result. And as for Saving Pvt. Ryan, this had the warnings on it so what's the big deal?

Parents can use the V-chip if they don't trust their kids or they could discuss what they watched later on. There are certainly more choices out there now as we have cable & internet & videogames (I remember 10 channels & that was it!). I know parents are too busy to be there 24-7 but primetime viewing could be done as a family. I like to think I was raised right so that if I did sneak into an R rated movie when I was still just 12 or got a glimpse of porno at a friend's house, it didn't make me into a maniac due to my parents' example.

To know the content before hand? I would hope the ratings give a good idea of that. If I was interested in the show, I wouldn't want any surprise endings revealed. All depends on what the makers are going for. 90% of TV is pretty predictable, the chance-takers often get the buzz or the controversy.

CW, I agree with the put-down, act stupid stuff. It was fine when it was one or two shows but now it's become the norm & a clean-cut show is the odd one out. But one hit has to be imitated. Also the "realism" of a CSI or a war film is from the need to trump what went on before. Certainly a 50s show looks tame, jump to the 70s & we get more but still tame, 90s gets really on the edge & today we have to get real out there to impress the "seen it" crowd.
