I urgently let the pups ahead of me and let everyone else file across with the pups as well. I hurry across after them my self...eyes still glued to Taro...
I anxiously wait another few moments. The car doesn't budge...neither does Taro. I look around for a solution...
Just then, the last thing I want to happen does, the human steps out of the car, and works its way towards Taro. Its a man....in his 30's I'd guess. In such uncertainty, I dash out into the highway and help Taro along...he seems as if he's still conscience....which I'm not sure if that's a good thing or what. He slugs across the concreit, barely moving, limply dragging himself along.I feel my eyes watering furiously. The tears ooze down the side of my muzzle. We finally reach safety. Taro collapses on the warm, plush grass. I look across the highway to see Dusts gaze meeting mine.
I shew the pups away and try to seem happy for their sake. Occupying them with the littlest things...like a bird flying above us, or other everyday things. But all the while, my eyes still sneak back to Taro. He needs water. But who will stay with the pups? Will they be OK alone? My mind reels with questions.
"I will be right back, and don't any of you, even think of crossing that highway, or going anywhere else, for that matter! Do you understand? This is very important...if you don't listen to me...some one could get hurt. Or...or worse..." I hear my own voice quiver at the end of my little speech. They all have their eyes locked with mine and nod somberly.I give a smile of reassurance before I bound off, down the sloping feild and into a woods. An eerie silence slips its robe around me. A owl hoots and it echos in my mind. find water Grettle, just find the water! I chant to myself, repeating that over and over, just to keep my sanity. But fear engulfs me whole.
