I agree that people should have the right to smoke as long as they do it in hermetically sealed bubble helmets and refrain from breathing out until in their own homes. Any other arrangement negates the right, indeed the ability of others in the vicinity to choose not to smoke. The two 'rights' are incompatible. Should a person's decision to feed a voluntarily adopted addiction be forced on his neighbours? Should we then provide special areas in restraunts and what have you for people to shoot up heroin or feed other sundry antisocial addictions? If I took a liking to pesticide would it be fine for me to spray it at random whenever I feel the urge? That sounds like a reductio ad absurdum, I know, but if smoking tobacco had been introduced to society within the last 50 years it would be a class A banned substance. It kills more people in this country every year than anything except the motor vehicle and it's more addictive than crack cocaine. Do you really think that nicotine addicts have an inalienable right to share their poison with an unconsenting populace?
