Actually, I got thinking about the whole admission system. Roger says student cards should not be accepted, and I think the door policy is poor in that not everyone is challenged for either a membership card or a student card.

If you are hypothetically looking for a full proof way of filtering who gets in and who doesn't, then just refusing student cards is a futile gesture if members can still sign in guests.

Again hypothetically; I think the nearest you can get to a full proof system is to do this: The only way to get into the club is with a membership card, no student cards, no guests, no blagging. The only way to get a membership card is by post (possibly with a seperate nomination by an existing member, but that could easily be faked if not made in house while the club is open). If a member is thrown out of the club, then their membership card is revoked. To prevent someone applying again under an assumed name, when they are ejected from the premesis either a Polaroid or a digital photo is taken and added to a "rouges gallery". That way door staff can have a visual I.D. of persona non grata.

To do anything less would make no difference because there are always ways around a system. There's ways around what I've just said, but they'd be rather extreme.

Then again the whole thing seems a bit extreme doesn't it? Which is probably why the status quo will remain, especially given the current (questionable) management.

D.
