It's important because of where it is... a quick and easy stop en route to Europe, trade port and all that. It has f**k all to do with national culture of any kind because people don't stop en route to Europe, they just pass through on their way to the ferry port. And, of course, in relation to inland destinations it's not en route to anywhere.

In 10 years Prescott and his cronies will have lined their pockets with our Objective 2 European funding (for which we technically don't qualify) and drained the city dry. Think not? Ask yourself where the money from the sale of KC went. We'll have had a big football pitch, a new fishtank and a few pretty streets out of it but Hull will still be limited by its geography and a dead fishing industry. Sure, we'll have the BBC here in force by then, but I'm wondering how many people originating from or living within the city boundaries will be employed by them in a non-menial capacity.
