Subject: Well, don't ask Andy Rooney about HIS opinion:

The two sexes, in and of themselves, are not inherently equal. Simply put, there's a major hardware difference in the packaging.

The ability of the two sexes, IMHO, are even.

I've always been a believer that ability alone ought to determine who's better at ... well, anything. To make comments like your friend did, is stereotyping and nothing more.

However, there remain many in this world ... perhaps, unfortunately, a majority ... who believe in the notions of the 'stronger' and 'weaker' sexes. Worse, it does seem that many who hold this belief have the power to enforce policy that maintains this discrimination. (The subject title, referring to Rooney's view of female sportsreporters, is just one example; another can be found at Augusta National, where women still aren't allowed.)

The only advice I can give you, NOVA, is to fight these narrow-minded individuals and choose the path that you feel is your destiny, not what someone else believes. I read this comment of yours, "Do you think that we should go back to being secretaries and housewives?", and it frightens me to think that they may be getting to you.

Fight the stereotype, and follow your dreams. You got plenty of support!
