1. What are your views of women in fields of work dominated by men? Do you think that we should go back to being secretaries and housewives?

I recently read an article in Fortune about powerful women in business and their "househusbands". The article can be seen online here. Here are families where the traditional roles are totally reversed: the wives have very high paying, prestigious jobs and the huslands take care of the kids, do the household chores, get dinner ready before the wife comes home, etc. Obviously not every woman will have a job with enough pay to make this arrangement work, and I don't see this reversal of roles to be optimum for everyone (though it certainly seems to be the optimum arrangement for them), but it kinda does my heart good to see we've progressed far enough that this role reversal is now possible.

I don't believe that we should force equality between the sexes (beyond discouraging discrimination, that is). The sexes are different. Each has its own tendencies, advantages and disadvantages. However, society shouldn't be forcing men and women into these tendencies. If a man's optimum role is to be the primary caregiver for his children or the optimum role for a woman is as soldier or public office, then society should not deny them that.

2. Do you think that the sexes are equal today? Why or why not?

Yes and no. In essence, they've always been equal. Legally, women have only recently gained equality with men. As far as society goes, women are still playing catch-up. We still don't have equal pay for equal work and equal tenure. Women running for public office are still regarded with skepticism, more by Republican voters than Democratic ones (though this Republican is hoping Condaleeza Rice runs for President sometime in the future). We've made strides, and we're continuing to make strides, but we still have a ways to go.
