That's definitely not true, because I've personally seen and played with both the Bandai Super and Strike VF-1S Valkyries, and the Super version has a round head. In fact, my brother still has that toy full of round heady goodness.

Furthermore, in the Macross TV series (aka Robotech The Macross Saga) the VF-1S is clearly drawn with a round face. Hence why the toy has a round face. In the Macross movie "Do You Remember Love" (aka Clash of the Bionoids) the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie is clearly shown with a square head.

There's also references to the differences between the two Valkyries in "Otaku no Video" (an anime parody on anime fandom).
