Although my printing/typesetting experience is confined to small offices, ventilation hoods were over individual machines with gas/petrol/paraffin pots, and ceiling fans for machines with electric pots. As for the hazard of accumulative lead poisoning, whilst at printing college in Manchester, we were advised to have occasional blood tests to check lead levels.
