Subject: What changes to Feis protocols should stick around after the pandemic

I would love people’s thoughts about what they think should stick around after the pandemic

* I love the dances being grouped by age instead of dance and the aprox. start times assigned to each age grouping.... I am ok if we never go back to not having any idea when your dancer will start dancing.. such a better balance to the day
* chairs spaced out in small groups even there is still a lot of other viruses that float around I don’t want to bring home from a feis,
* no camping in the halls is sorta nice, less congestion (inline this one is tough if you are not staying in a hotel connected to the feis) but I have totally rethought how to bring the essentials and have a bright colored backpack (that way if my dancer needs to spot me across the way the backpack stands out) and it allows me to bring the few things we need (shoes, holding place for warm up pants ect)
* hand sanitizer everywhere especially in winter feis season
* exiting the stage after dancing instead of staying lining up...

There are lots of things I miss and can’t wait to get back... we miss having the option to bring dad along, me miss the awards ceremony, and of course we miss having the freedom to watch our friends dance and support them!

A "not before" timeline. I'm okay with earlier registration cutoff and no same day registration if we can keep these start times!

[> [> As a feis organizer, I can tell you that under normal circumstances, it is extremely difficult to abide by a schedule that has "start times" or even "not before times." -- Inside, 13:16:06 10/27/20 Tue (cpe-65-189-55-125.cinci.res.rr.com/65.189.55.125)

It also leads to a lot of stress for the volunteers who get chewed out when stages run long and it's well past the original start time. There's also the issue of the stages running ahead of schedule (yes, it does happen) and dancer's missing their first rotation because it's impractical to hold the stages when the venue is packed. The same people who chew the volunteers out for the stages running late are the ones who chew the volunteers out because their children missed their rotation (and ignore the syllabus that states to be ready to dance at least 1/2 hour before the estimated start time).

[> [> [> It's all in what you're used to -- former NE mom, 16:18:52 10/27/20 Tue (NoHost/165.225.60.127)

NE region consistently has start times for their feiseanna - not for every dance but for blocks (e.g., Novice starts at 10am then the order of dances within). It would be hard for people to adjust here but it is possible.

The complainers will happen no matter what - the NE moms always complained about the lack of times on the feiseanna outside the region.

[> [> I don't think you're alone, but for the dancers who place regularly, you would be in the minority. It's exciting to be awarded for your accomplishment with your peers present! That said, I love the recall list a lot of Southern feises have. This way, if a dancer knows they didn't place, they can skip awards if they want to. -- We all have our preferences:-), 18:04:08 10/27/20 Tue (cpe-65-189-55-125.cinci.res.rr.com/65.189.55.125)

I would like to see recall list & awards presentation for the top half finishers

[> [> This! I know the reasoning is that the feiseanna like to run in the order they would at the majors, but at the majors there's generally at least an hour between rounds for each dancer.
