有一次，兩個美國人和兩個猶太人搭火車旅行。
美國人很單純，每人買了一張票，而猶太人精打細算，兩個人只買了一張票。
美國人見到這種情形，就問猶太人︰『你們只有一張票，那等一下列車長來查票，你們怎樣辦？』

猶太人神秘地笑而不答，上了火車不久，便傳來列車長查票的聲音，只見猶太人，兩個人擠進一間廁所內。

列車長查票，來到他們的車廂。敲了敲廁所的門，說︰『車票看一下！』
門開了一條縫，一隻手拿著一張票伸出來。列車長再怎樣想也想不到，一間廁所內，竟然躲著兩個人，他看了票後把票從門縫中塞了回去。

到了目的地，他們!四人玩得很盡興。踏上歸途買票時，兩個美國人心想︰『早上來時，猶太人的方法真不錯……』

於是他們幾經討論後，決定也買了一張票就好，輪到猶太人時，只見他們搖搖手，說這次就不買票了。

上了火車，兩個美國人非常期待，不知猶太人又有什麼好方法，說時遲﹑那時快，列車長又來查票了。

美國人顧不得觀看猶太人的新招式，兩人趕緊鑽進了廁所。

又是『叩﹑叩』兩聲，猶太人敲了敲廁所門，門應聲而開，一隻手拿著一張票，從門縫中伸出。猶太人︰『嗯，謝謝！』兩個猶太人拿了票，立即往前一節車廂的廁所奔去。
