Subject: Rules?

Read some emails and posts recently and thought I'd throw out some food for thought. The rules for this race are just what they are. THIS RACE ONLY. All this conversation about dominating and rules fluctuating is ok but I would hate to lose focus here. John has been gracious enough to volunteer to be the leadman as far as the rules go. We opened things up a bit so we could improve our car count and hopefully land some sponsors and get more feedback for next year. Another thing I think is important is that John does not have a car and has no hidden agenda. He just wants to see a competitive class just like we do so let him do his (volunteer) job and I think next year we'll see a good result. I don't even have a car yet, but I can probably tell you what I would build. A short deck 540 to 565 with a decent set of heads and a single carb. Will I win a bunch? Probably not. Will I be competitive? I would hope so. More importantly, will I have a good time? Damn straight.

[> In reading this post it sounds like the rules are being "opened up a bit" - then once you get it rolling one better have a BB or you will be ruled out next year. So tell us, what will you do after the car count gets up and you either run off most of those you have or you let it get so fast that it's no longer "affordable" for the racers with day jobs? -- Pistol Pete, 19:19:46 10/24/02 Thu [1]

[> [> We have no intention to "run off" anyone. I feel like we're pretty clear as to what our plans are. Some of the pieces allowed at the next race will not be back next year, but the basic idea we first started with will not change. This type of racing is not cheap to begin with and our goal is to hold the line on expensive and exotic parts and above all keep the competition close. -- Mark, 21:05:36 10/25/02 Fri [1]

[> Wishing you all the luck - just dont forget car count will make you or break you. The "affordable" is getting more and more forgotten and they trend appears that BB will have the advantage in the future. There are no SB combos that are remotely close to affordable to run with the optimal BB combo. -- Pete, 12:59:27 10/26/02 Sat [1]

[> [> I have to agree. A competitive sb is more money than a bb. Its still an individual choice on what to run. All we can do is try to make everyone close. The higher cost of a sb combo is not something we can control, it's just a fact. -- Mark, 15:42:04 10/26/02 Sat [1]

[> The higher cost of SB combo would not be such a factor if the BB inches (HP) were not so much greater, given the ratio of weight differences the two have. We will wait and see what happens before me make a final decision, but I guarantee we wont be building another combo motor. -- 2 Cents, 16:48:53 10/27/02 Sun [1]

[> I would like to add my 2 cents to Mr. 2 cents... I again state the objective here is to make the combos even as possible. We are trying to even the weight per horsepower so all the cars will be as competitive as possible. What you come up with is your business and strictly your decision. We want as many cars as we can get to come and see what we are doing and maybe take the extra carb off for next year or whatever YOU RACERS decide. WE will provide the place... you have to make your ride fit. -- John Harrison, 20:15:59 10/28/02 Mon [1]
