You need more home work! Yes ,a splayed valve 358 / 2 carb engine at 2800 lbs will run about 5.30/8.31 (950 HP) This is close to the 5.38 that was ran in the first event. Any good big block should be able to run 5.08/7.98 at 2450 (950 HP with one carb) Just because the cars that ran are a little slow, they will surely pick it up. I know a 509 in single carb mtr that can run a 5.09 (with cast heads) now. You know him also. That was at 2375 lbs, might slow up some with the extra weight. But this thing has Chevy cast iron heads! Surely a 555 plus motor can run in the 4's Check out the B/AA weight breaks and et's These 500 inch motors are alot faster than any splayed valve stuff. So don't kill the splayed valve stuff with too much weight If anything the weight should be reversed on the big block 2 four stuff (2600 to 2800lbs) At 2600 lbs the thing only needs to make 1060 hp to run 4.99/7.83 I don't see a small inch sml blk competive with one carb They need to bore and stroke em along with another carb.( IF they want to run with the big blocks ) Most can't loose enough weight But overall weight will be the equalizer. I like Owen's answer, keep throwin 50 lbs at the really fast ones to drag them back in line but don't kill em with outragous rules. How about that lil boy and the Dude !

You are right professor. I was wrong. Hope this doesnt mean I fail the class. I should have known better than to question the superior intelect of the "Professor" Next time I will call the "Worm" and we will try and put some of that "Agricultural Knowledge" to work on it. Well back to the books for me. Go kick your lil shit eater dog and get to work on "Double Ugly"
