Subject: shamans reflections cd

recently browsed through e-bay, and found what is supposedly a japaneese import cd called - shamans reflections - apparently has live tracks from chicago circa 73, old cbc stuff, and a couple of outtakes. apparently e-bay took it off once (don't know why), but its back two times this week, one originating from canada, the other from the u.s.. has anyone heard of this cd , and is it legit, or someone burning bootleg cds. i'd love to get my hands on the early cbc stuff. since there's so many of us yakking on this list these days i'm hopeful that one of us has the disc and can verify its autenticity- thanks - joe l

Well, it's a Japanese import- there are cuts from AP I think- from the vinyl. Probably of interest mostly to avid collecters- some who have it can tell you more- I'm just going from memory because it's come up before, but it would qualify as a bootleg.

It's certainly not a legitimate CD release in the sense that Burton and the boys receive any royalties from sales. It's an import title on the Ten Dollar label. It's professionally manufactured and printed. But that's where the "professional" ends. The crap on the CD is crap. AP cuts direct from vinyl with no attempt at all to remove pops and clicks. Obvious cuts from live concerts taken directly from audio tape bootleg tapes with LOTS of hiss. Certainly not sound board tapes as advertised on the cover. And poor sounding cuts taken from the two common episodes of the CBC show Let's Go - Overall the sound quality ranks from fair to really shitty. I got my copy for free in a trade. I really feel sorry for the suckers who have paid in excess of $20 for the thing on e-bay.

My suggestion would be to find a friend to make you a copy of their copy. Let's not perpetuate this sham by buying new copies from Ten Dollar Productions.

Speaking of EBay - I had to back off bidding on the promo poster from "Break It To Them Gently" once I saw your name as high bidder. Did you get it? It's probably better off, the IRS owns my butt for a while, then I guess I can give it back to EBay.

Sorry for the confusion Joel - did you start checking your credit card receipts? This was in answer to Bannatyne's message, it was his name I saw.

I don't think it has ended yet? Anyway, I don't usually go over $10 for an ad. Too many of them around to get crazy.

If the box set comes to fruition, CDs like this won't matter. But it does have some vintage, or what can be called historic recordings - albeit not that good sounding in places.

They can call it Japanese import or whatever, but it is a bootleg, no doubt about that. I agree, that sound quality is in most songs very bad, althoug there is great soundstage version of Dancin Fool. I think you can still get this one from Midnight Records ($ 21,99), maybe not worth it, but if you are a fan, you just have to have everything.
