Subject: EXERPT FROM "COLOURED LIGHTS CAN HYPNOTIZE"

October 25/1989
Woodcliff

After screaming through the first half of “Majestic” today on the plane, I feel compelled to resume keeping a diary, if not every single day, then at least as often as possible...technology makes it so much easier than it used to be.
Ah, that place of solace that is thine in the universe...thine own mind...I almost had myself convinced yesterday on the plane and in the Vancouver airport that the reference to the disappearance of 1200 Eskimoes in the Winter of 1930 was indeed fact...talked to 3 different Mounties, all of whom suggested that any records of an unclosed investigation could be obtained in Ottawa...talked to a Professor Mackie at UBC who told me he had never heard of sucn ah occurence. This man had apparently spent 35 winters on the perma frost, so I considered him to be an expert.

He suggested that in the Arctic in 1930 there was barely a settlement of Eskimoes numbering a hundred or more, let alone a good sized Arctic “town” of 1200. Here again, lest I seem too lacking in worldly experience or guile, I’m sure my fascination was fuelled by a certain amount of wishful thinking...I find repeatedly while reading these books concerning the “visitors” a subtle, almost subliminal “wish” to be contacted.
The old “pond scum” theory disappoints me though. I still find it hard to accept that all these billions of years of what we’ve come to call evolution may have taken place in a test tube. The human mind is developing rampantly. The collective consciousness of the human species is beyond cataloguing. How much of all this has been “helped along” by more advanced beings ?
Quite frankly, the thought of a four foot, cream coloured “insect like” creature speaking to me telepathically and moving with smooth, precise, intelligent gestures scares the living fuck out of me...and yet, given the opportunity to go, if I knew I wouldn’t have pain or torture or cruelty heaped upon me I would go in an instant.
The human emotion palette is no doubt part of what is so valuable to any species who would use us for anything. It certainly wouldn’t be our physical strength, speed, or mental prowess. A possible concept I see involves Earth as a “garden”, possibly unique to the Universe, and we are soiling it with our filth and weapons...these “keepers” of the unique, almost sacred “garden” are most definitely not going to let us blow it into non existence over preposterous power struggles down here on our clumps of rock.
Today is so beautiful in Los Angeles...the rain has cleared the air and the sky is as blue as I’ve seen it in years. It must have been truly breathtaking here in the thirties.
This business of moving souls around is pretty creepy stuff...not the concept of souls, but the concept that these creatures can transfer them the way we transfer hearts and lungs and kidneys here on Earth. The point where the spiritual enters the picture is the point where human grasping breaks down, yet can there be methodical “soul transferring” ? END OF DIARY ENTRY, OCTOBER 25/1989
