Subject: Introducing Burton

I love introducing Burton (or re-introducing in most cases) to my fellow office workers who've forgotten him or TGW. I have an older gentleman in my office who likes piano, so I lent him UC&A, and after he listened, he told me he's going to get a copy this weekend. He's taking home "Collections" this weekend, too. I'm willing to let that go for a weekend ONLY because I have all of those numbers on my individual CD's.

So just for grins, if you wanted to initiate someone into Burton, what song and/or what CD would you recommend to begin someone's addiction? I often use UC&A because of the pure piano and vocals and the mix of his solo and GW work. But let me know what you think.

I would lean towards Collection because they are the original recordings and span his entire solo catalog. Now, if you include TGW, then add the two-cd GW Collection.
I would lean

I think I'd consider the tastes of the person (target). If they were into rock, MOWTY, Woman Love, or Plus Signs. If they were into mellower, I'd lend'em BC or Dream.

A couple years back I made up a tape for a black neighbor- I taped 90 minutes of some of Burton's more black sounding songs like the bluesier and jazzier stuff. Back To The City, So Long Bannatyne, Nashville Sneakers, Framed, Just Let Me Sing He was only familiar with mostly the singles and he said "Wow, I never knew they did that kinda stuff."

I think it would depend upon the tastes of the person you were introducing the music to. If they want to rock, or if they prefer ballads. Gosh, there is such a variety to choose from! Let them listen to The Collection CD. That got my husband hooked.
