While my favorite GW song also changes on a daily basis, I do agree that their best album is Wheatfield Soul. I enjoy that album not only for sentimental reasons (it was the first GW album I heard and the one solely responsible for my GW addiction), but also for its diversity in the group's musical endeavors. The album highlights the group's ability to perform several styles of music, while claiming them all as their own. There aren't too many albums in my collection that do this.

Now, having the advantage of seeing all the Guess Who's repertoire, I can see they have better songs on other albums. But the albums containing those songs don't have the same impact that Wheatfield Soul still has.

I disagree. Some of the songs on the album are derivative in nature. The Guess Who was developing at this point in time and still trying to "find themselves". American Woman was a real breakthrough album as the music really became their music and sound. Wheatfield Soul is a good album and interesting to listen to but I don't think it is as good as most of the albums from American Woman on.
