It was completely unnecessary, and I kinda felt uncomfortable watching it to be cruelly honest. The only thing I think benefitted from it was to show how close they were for the "dream realised" scene near the end.

Overall, though, I'd give it two thumbs up. Honestly, I thought it was as good as the first movie, it just didn't have the original "wow" factor of the first one. (But let's face it, back then we didn't know what was going on.) I thought the best fight scene in the movie was the Neo vs 101 Agent Smiths scene, reminded me very much of the XiaoXiao flash animations! Also, Zion itself was a suprise. But considering it's location and it's heritage, I really shouldn't be that suprised.

Let's clarify this... Was that speech-inspired dance a huge rave... or a huge orgy? It could easily have been both from what I saw. O_O
