No, no, I quite understand. All of the communique has been by email, and my husband has also been privy to it, so as to make it not look like subterfuge or anything immoral...but your point is well taken. I think it is only human nature that, when one's intents are for the best, one simply does not think that they may be taken otherwise. I guess I'm still very naive. Perhaps it is also good advice to recommend another pastor when the situation is too close to home, just as a judge would recuse himself if he personally knew any of the parties involved.

Unfortunately, just as a mother hen would do to protect her chicks, I suppose it was my love for the individuals involved that made me want to protect them myself. A hard lesson learned, and I hope that any of my brethen will take this into consideration should a similar situation arise in his/her own flock.
