Hello Bro. Mark,
We must always be careful that we do not read more into the scriptures than they present to us. I can see the parallel that you are following however we must be careful not to grant these storms any credibility as to being a "judgement from God" as we are in and under "Grace". It is true that God allowed these storms to do their distruction upon our shores however this should be seen more as a "wake-up call" for people of God to be watchful and not become lax in their life styles and in what they seek in their pleasures.

What has been observed is a great outpouring of Christian love and support towards these displaced people and a compassionate outreach by people who have been cut in their hearts over the losses suffered in all of this.

It is not by accident that these storms have come as God has a plan and this is a part of it. I do not believe it is prudent however to make it stand to represent God's judgement in any way......... perhaps it is better seen as a direct warning!
