Hi Pamela.

You don't say what engine / year you have so it's a bit hard to say. I'd start with checking that the coolant is topped up to the right level and that the water pump drivebelt is present and correctly tensioned. You might be better with somebody more local - we're in Lancashire, NW England (UK)
