I have owned 5 new beetles. Some at the same time as my air coolers and others just as my main car. The oldest models are only 12 years old and many of these will have lead a hard life now.Cam belt replacement is an expensive job. The models with very light interior trim get very dirty, certainly the lemon yellow/ lime and cream. Black leather or domino cloth is best. I wouldn't recommend a turbo diesel or a 2 litre unless you are going to do a lot of motorway driving. They use a lot of fuel! the 1.6 model was economical but the 1.4 is even better. Never had a cabriolet but I do know there isn' t much boot space. Boot space isn't great on any model, certainly not much use as a family car hence the reason I no longer have
one. They drive really well, loved the massive dash, controls etc all really basic. There is a blind spot where the roof curves down to the bottom of windscreen. Can be a pain when going round a roundabout but something you get used to! It never really bothered me.
