I have a 2001 jetta tdi,engine was replaced also timing belt.Now I have atapping noise like a lifter or maybe the tension isn't correct for the belt.The mechanic didn,t have a VW DIAGNOSTIC TOOL. I'M HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING WHEN IT'S COLD,(SMOKES LIKE AWOOD STOVE UNTIL THE EXCESS FEUL IS BURNT OFF,TEMP GUAGE DOES NOT WORK EVEN THOUGH HE REPLACED THE SENSOR, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. WHEN IT IS WARM IT STARTS AND SEEMS LIKE THE ENGINE RACES UPON START UP. MY GAS MILAGE IS AROUND 40 TO 44MPG AND I SMELL FEUL.
