She extends her hand outwards t'wards the gelding, far enough way so that he couldn't do anything to it, yet close enough so that he could take a good whiff of her scent. See... I'm not that bad. She says this to the horse absentmindedly. It was natural for someone to speak to an animal, I mean, come on, they have ways of communicating with us as well.
