I couldn'tthink of any reason why he should get it, unless it's in hope. I certainly don't think he's done anything yet to merit it.

Racism is still alive and kicking in the US though. I have a friend in Texas (I was at school with her many, many years ago)and she was saying in an email just yesterday that it had been on the news that a Justic, or registrar or whatever you call them in the US had refused a marriage licence to a mixed rare pair who wished to marry. She's sent some photos of her "son's" successful adoption of a 2nd child (the reason that son is in parentheses is that he is actually her nephew but her sister died and the boy lived with her and her husband for a long time, and was more of a son than a nephew and was treated by her own sons more as a brother than a cousin). He is gay and living with a partner, and they had been accepted as foster parents for a child who had been born to a junkie and who was actually born an addict because of his mother's addiction. They were allowed to adopt the litle boy when he had been living with them for a while, and they told the authorities that they would be prepared to take on another child should the mother have any more. Well she did, but the others were all put out for adoption and they never heard about them, but they discovere a few months ago that there was another baby of 6 months, also born an addict, and in foster care so they moved heaven and earth to take on the little girl as well, and finally adopted her last week, so she will be living with her older brother. The boy is about 6, I think, and the baby is just a year old. The mother has had 9 children all of whom have been taken from her or she has given away because she's a junkie, doesn't want to get clean, and doesn't want the children. As Vic says, the children have been taken into a loving home with loads of female influence as well as both she and the mother of her son's partner are now adoptive grandmas, and there are loads of aunts, so the children will never want for the need of male or female influence adn they have been taken out of the squalor that the mother lived in (they look to be Hispanic and are gorgeous)and now live togeher. When they were fostering the little boy they had all sorts of benefits for him, free health insurance, the guarantee of college fees if he stayed with them indefintely, a carer's payment, etc, but lost everything when they adopted him, but now they have adopted the little girl, much to their surprise they get to keep all her benefits because they have taken on a sibling, which wasn't why they did it, they just wanted to keep brother & sister together so they both had someone of their own blood. The photos are gorgeous, and the children look so happy.
