I wasn't naughty as such, just a bit rebellious and being teenagers and starting to feel our feet, and also having freedom and powers that our parents never had at our age, we were a bit pushy, and occasionally arrogant. Or, as the English teacher told me, unChristian, although I think she meant uncharitable towards her, though why she should say that to me when Von actually sat and openly read the paper in her class and I did actually listen to her most of the time even if I did have a paperback under the desk, but she did seem to blame me for most of the things that went wrong in class, much to Von's amusement. I was also more likely to argue my case than most of the others which never did go down well, and possibly a bit too handy with the throwing arm as our French assistant found out when I changed schools. It was the 2nd year in the 6th form, and we had a new assistant, who was absolutely full of himself and a bit peeved I think as I treated his advances to the girls in the class with total disdain, but what he didn't know was that I had spent over a month living with a French family who didn't speak any English and my French slang had got quite good as I went out a couple of times with the niece of the family, who was much my age (18) and the assistant made the foolish mistake of basically calling me a prostitute in French slang. He only just ducked in time as my huge French dictionary went flying past his head and I responded in very colloquial French. He went absolutely scarlet, and when the rest of the class asked what it was about I told them to ask him, and then told him in French to repeat what he had said, if he dared. He went every so quiet, which was probably as well.
