The fire brigade was there for over 18 hours, I think the police finally opened up the barriers at about 1.30 this afternoon, which makes 19 hours in total for the fire brigade, the people who came to make the site safe, the police investigation people and the tv crews, and the firemen were back when David and I cae back from the doctors at 4.00, 2 units and they were hosing down again to make sure it was all damped down. The families have lost everything, but fortunately the young family have family in the village and her mother has a semi, the next door property of which is also hers and she has just finished doing it up to rent, so the family are going to move into that, and the older couple are going to have a look at a place tomorrow - they have actually been offered 3 places in the village by people who generally let the houses out as holiday lets. The contents of their freezer are spread over 3 or 4 places so they won't have lost any food, and now it's a matter of them getting under their "own" roofs and having things around them, most new but some still old, and playing a waiting game for the insurance companies, planning permission, listed building consent etc. It could take a couple of years before anything has been rebuilt, if indeed the properties can be rebuilt. So many people have come forward though with offers of help and with actualy physical help, the vicar has been round to see them, and generally the community is pulling together.
