Splendid!

If I was a pollinating insect I'd find that eruption of colour irresistible. But I'm not, and it makes me wonder why we humans get such immense pleasure from gazing at things like this. What exactly is being tickled inside our heads? Associated memories?

Roses make me think of my dad. He nurtured a single rose bush in our front garden.

But is there something intrinsically pleasurable in colours? My grandson, aged four months, went wide-eyed with apparent astonishment whenever he saw something red.

Mrs BB also goes wide-eyed when she opens the morning mail and sees "Final Demand" in bold red lettering.

I think the Blether Bar research department should apply for a grant to study this. Gilly, I'd like to nominate you for the position of Chief Researcher on this project.

BB
