Margaret is the dog expert and she definitely has the knowledge and the correct procedure, and I agree with Gilly you wee dog probably considers herself Top Dog.

Fortunately our dogs are quite obedient, (but I must admit they have a short memory span). The first word they learned was "NO" uttered in a loud growling voice we don't use many other words with them but the most important ones are:

NO (covers most issues)
BED (when they are inside they are contained to a certain area and that area is called bed)
BACK DOOR (if we are arriving home and entering the house by the front door they must go round the back and wait until we let them in)
GOOD DOG (used quite often fortunately)
HERE MAX OR MAXIE (when we call him)
HERE EMMA (used to work but she is totally deaf now so we are communicating in sign language. Pointing or raising a finger or a gentle tap if she is in the house)

We very occasionally put food in front of them but won't let them eat until we say so: This is just to remind them that we are in charge and the providers.
We do not let them enter the house until the OK is given. So there are not really many restrictions but it seems to give Bryan and myself top dog power.

When they were younger and they were disobedient they would be spoken to severely and then deliberately and obviously ignored for a while. Don't know if this was the correct thing to do but it did seem to work rather well.

Margaret is right you will be able to pull her into line but you will have to be persistent and not let her get away with anything again.

Best of Luck.

Edie
