Hey Guys,
I had almost given up hope of finding people here in the PI who could even think fly fishing!I am a fly fishing nut, living in Manila for the last 5 years-and finding it hard to find any information on where to go, and what to fish for-but saying that I have managed to put together some imformation. Can we pool our rescources.
The biggest problem is finding out what is there, and when its there. Then there is the problem of getting there, and getting out onto the water.
I have high hopes for Batangas on the fly.Dorado, sailfish, and tangigue. good hopes for talakitok. There are also good possibilities for pacific tarpon (buanbuan),ladyfish (bidbid), threadfin salmon (mamali),and queenfish (lapis). Bonefish are also found somewhere in Batangas, I have so far three official reports of them.
I think that the freshwater guys have dipped out here, there appears to be little other than tilapia, bangus, dulag(snakehead), and carp. Of course there is Lake Calirya, and Lumot for smallmouth bass (and supposedly peackock bass), plus I have heard of some places that have barramundi (apahap), and that in particular there is a lake in Bacolod. There is also the giant gourami in Mindanao, but I have not heard of or researched this fishes habits so I can't judge if it can be taken on a fly.
Sadly for me I don't get to many opportunities to get out on the water, and as such my own experiences have been to say the least extremely frustrating.
Any one interested in fly fishing here should drop me a line, we could start something here.
Earl.
