By now, Martin Nievera should know how to say goodbye to his dream of invading America's music shores. I've read that he plagiarized popular songsmith Diane Warren's composition "We Don't Know How to Say Goodbye."

The article (www.philmusic.com/zine/news/2001/11/111201_emi/index.shtml) reported that the Filipino Concert King had claimed on Manila TV that he wrote "How To Say Goodbye," the debut single off his new greatest hits album "My Souvenirs." However, when the American label EMI threatened to file charges against Martin, the singer agreed to credit Warren as the original author of the song in question.

An American Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Warren has racked up many awards for her compositions, including a 1997 Grammy (Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television) for "Because You Loved Me," sung by Celine Dion. She has received nominations as well in the Golden Globe and Academy Awards. Her "How Do I Live" had the longest run of any song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Moreover, her Realsongs company is the most successful woman-run business in music publishing.

Goodbye, Martin Nievera albums.
