Subject: About the premier of Enterprise

I liked it.

I was predisposed to like it given as to how I have enjoyued Trek stuff for decades!

AND, I like Scott Bakula.

But it was interesting that while i think he's going to be great as Archer, it was the performances of the supporting cast taht I really enjoyed.

One thing that I found highly irritating about TNG and Voyager, was that EVERYONE on both those ships was some kind of GENIUS and knew EVERYTING about EVERYTHING.

I think I'm going to really like it that equipment is faulty, the crew (while brilliant folks) are excited AND a bit apprehensive about the unknown, and that the things are not so "ho-hum" as they often seemed to be on TNG.

I *MUST* make a comment about hte "gel" scene -- just how gratuitous and stupid could they have gotten?

It had to be applied? There couldn't have been some kind of "shower"-like something they stood under and got drenched by? And what about their faces and scalp? The "beasties" they may have picked up wouldn't be on their faces? LOL! But know we know that T'Pol and what's-his-name have great physiques. Wow -- what a surprise!

Bakula looked nifty in his underwear too.

I fully expect to see EVERYONE in the cast nearly-nude before the first season is over.

I'll pass on seeing the Doctor, thankyouvery much! LOL!

So -- what did you all think?

[> [> Yep -- only one post a minute allowed. And Enterprise is on a cable station in the Washington area on Wednesdays at 8 pm. It's repeated Saturday evening at 7 or 8. Check your local listings! LOL! -- MichelleB, 18:33:57 09/30/01 Sun

[> I think Michelle that the reason for that scene is because of the two people responsible for the whole series. Remember it is the same creative team that came up with Voyager. One of the only reasons to add Jerry Ryan to the cast was for the "wow" factor. They wanted to boost the ratings and felt that adding a busty blonde would do the trick. They had repeated episodes that glorified this fact and had no real reason in the plot. I think you will see more instances of scenes like this and that has got me worried. Bakula is great and the cast seems well rounded. What I really like is that there is no United Federation of Planents and no prime directirve so they are almost like cowboys from the West searching out new places and taking charge. -- Ian M, 02:13:14 10/01/01 Mon

[> [> I like those aspects too, Ian. Even though Kirk, Picard, Sisko, and Janeway violated the Prime Directive on MANY occasions, it will be interesting to see Enterprise operate without those constraints. I imagine thme getting into trouble and maybe that trouble is eventually the reason behind adopting the Prime Directive. Possible? LOL! We'll have to wait and see! -- MichelleB, 10:10:06 10/01/01 Mon

[> [> [> That is a good point Michelle. Maybe Bakula is the whole reason for the prime directives!! On another note, while I would agree that all of the above sometimes violated the prime directives Janeway just plane didnt use them at all. She did what she felt like doing and challenged anyone in her crew to say anything about it. It was one of the worst things about Voyager. Janeway said the heck with everything and you are doing what I say, the rules dont matter to me. -- Ian M, 17:00:34 10/01/01 Mon

[> Hey everybody! I was looking for info on the JAG premier and saw someone was creating an Enterprise board, so I thought I would come over. I liked the opener of Enterprise. Trek does not really have a good record for premiers, but I think this may have been the best start yet. The story was good and the charaters have promise. (NT) -- RoxieAnna, 15:42:20 10/01/01 Mon

[> [> [> I'm glad you found us! I agree with you about Enterprise. THe premier was darn good as ST premiers go. Voyager's wasn't bad -- but TNG was pretty awful. I'm looking forward to this new show. I think it has the chance to be the best yet. -- MichelleB, 16:25:37 10/01/01 Mon

[> [> [> [> I'm not sure a test pattern wouldn't have been better than the TNG premiere ("I too could never say goodbye, Imzadi..." GAK! PTOOIE!) It's a wonder I came to love the show. But the Enterprise premiere--WOWEE! Aside from the GGS (gratuitous gel scene), it was big fun. The best line was Hoshi's "SHUT UP!" Hee! I'm gonna like that girl. -- Laura, 12:06:15 10/09/01 Tue
