Subject: On top of Old Smokey - XMAS version
On top of Old Smokey,
My dry Douglas Fir.
I spied a charred angel,
At the top of my tree.
For I cut it in July,
Some months way too soon.
I kept it in turpentine,
So I thought it was fine.
I found grandpas light set,
In the bottom of the trash.
All wrapped up with friction tape,
And the cords were all cracked.
When I plugged in the light set,
The house lights did dim.
So I bypassed the fuse box,
Just on a whim.
With ten pounds of icicle’s,
All made out of lead.
I decorated the tree,
And went off to bed.
Around ‘bout four-thirty,
I awoke to a smell.
The flames from the living room,
Looked straight out of HELL.
The firemen came,
And put out the flames.
The fire chief looked at me,
As though I’m deranged.
So when you come visit,
And your presents can’t find.
I’ll remind you your presents,
Are soot on the blinds.
Next year will be better,
This I can tell.
I’ll have a tree run on propane,
And a Yule log as well.
