Subject: Ballet News

Hey everyone!

I've been really busy recently with all the end of year dance stuff with the kids (sewing lace embroidery onto tutus, sequins onto shirts and pants, running kids to lessons etc) so haven't been around as much.

Well, we have ballet exam results. J got 73% and a Distinction. X got 85%, a distinction and equal topped the school.

At the concert yesterday, which we wondered whether J would get to participate in because of an allergic reaction, J got a small trophy and a certificate and X got a certificate, a ribbon, a special gift given to all the soloists (a picture frame with all ballet stuff around it) and brought home the perpetual trophy for the Junior grades.

They both danced fantastically yesterday. I was so proud of them, and seeing them on stage made all that nasty sewing worthwhile (sewing is not my favourite task).

For tap dancing - X had a lime green and watermelon pink sequinned leotard with feathers on the back and a lime green feather and pink sequinned headpiece; J had a pair of black pants with a lime green sequinned stripe down each leg and a lime green shirt with a lime green sequinned pocket.

For ballet - X had a lilac leotard with soft chiffon cap sleeves, a lilac half tutu made of tuille and a purple ribbon in her hair; J wore a pair of black boys leggings with white socks up to the knees , white ballets and a lilac button up shirt. They danced to Grieg's 'Wedding at Troldhaugen'.

For her classical solo X wore a hot pink tutu (one of the ones with the fluffy bum) embroidered with gold lace and satin ballet slippers with the ribbons up the legs.

Congratulations on the childrens' ballet performances. I'm sure it was such a wonderful feelings to see them on stage. You certainly must be very proud. Sounds like all your hard work (sewing, etc) paid off. The costume sounds so colorful and pretty. I hope you were able to take pictures of this performance.

My daughter took dancing lessons for 7 years and fortunately we did not have to sew anything.(I would have had to hire someone to sew as I am not gifted at all in that department) We had to buy new costumes every year for her dance recital. She took lessons in tap, jazz & ballet. It was very good for coordination and she still dances well as an adult.

We had our first major snowstorm on Saturday & Sunday. We have 22 inches of snow and this is just the beginning. It was very pretty to look at but not so great to shovel out.

Tina, we don't own a camera right now, but we have ordered the video, and a friend took a shot of J and X together (X holding her trophy).

Kylie, I can just imagine how proud you were of both your children. I can just picture their outfits and how lovely they would have looked. Sounds like all your hard work sewing was worth every moment of toiling over their costumes.
Well done to J and X.
