Subject: Happy Australia Day

Hope you all have a great time.

For those it applies to, what are your plans?

We're having a quiet evening at home. We were going to go over to a local celebrations, but had our plans changed at the last minute, so at least now I'll be able to make sure China is OK with the fireworks.

Kylie

Kylie, we've had a very quiet Australia Day. Unfortunately we've been working (how un Australian on a public holiday? (lol). Tonight is just a usual quiet evening for us. Oh, and I bathed and brushed Jake today for her yearly vet appointment for tomorrow (lol). She looks so pretty and fluffy now. Not bad for over 10 with arthritis and prone to Pancreatis as well. She is such a lovely girl.

I read before on Dog Chat that Jo (Raggiesrule) has a new puppy. A red cattle dog? I've asked her for more information about her (nosey parker that I am - lol).

It's in the post from Donna.

Don't worry Susan, dh worked today too. *lol* Then we went to friends' for dinner which was unexpected, but very nice and she sent me home with all the leftover sausages, so I guess I'm making casserole tomorrow.

Jake sounds like a lovely girl. It's funny that we should both have had bitches with boy's names. My parents owned a Troy when I was young and she was really lovely, although she liked who she liked if you know what I mean. In fact she put a policeman back in his car one day - would let his partner out and was all over him, as soon as the other guy tried to step out she started bristling. She was a blue cattle dog, and Mum has pictures of me asleep in a washing basket with a pile of kittens and Troy guarding us all.

Talking of cattle dogs, I might have to be a nosy parker too. Jo is a lovely lady. We've had a couple of long chats at the cat shows I've managed to get to.

Good Morning,

Could you please tell me the significance of this Holiday celebration? Is it similiar to our fourth of July celebration with firewords and independence day?

Here in New Hampshire the temperature right now is zero and we have had a very cold January month. Most of our temperature has been below zero due to wind chill factor. Too cold to take my golden retriever on his daily walks.

We are the first state to vote in the primary democratic presidential race tomorrow. We have been receiving phone calls from all the candidates and campaign workers are out in full force knocking on doors. They now have CD's on the cadidates in addition to flyers. I will be glad when it is over.

Wishing all of you who live in Australia a good holiday!

Australia Day is the celebration of the day that Captain Arthur Phillip took formal possession of the colony of NSW and became its first Governor. It was originally called Foundation Day, but has been known as Australia Day since 1946.

It is a national public holiday.
