OK, I couldn't resist some more.... -- Kylie, 01:57:47 01/25/04 Sun (webcache01.mas.optusnet.com.au/211.29.136.11)
.... so these are the ones I can remember. This is a loving memorial to many happy memories of times together -
CATS
Mintsey (first cat - tuxedo) - because she was like a little piece of mince meat when we got her (at three days old)
Tom (can't remember his colouring)- Mintsey's brother and my sister's cat to name
Fluff - shorthaired grey tabby (just because I felt like it)
Tut Tut (tuxedo)- because he was so naughty (Fluff's kitten)
Boffy (blue medium long hair)- short for Ball of Fluff (also Fluff's kitten)
Solomon - (at time of naming) undesexed black cat, because King Solomon had 300 wives and 700 concubines or some equally ridiculous numbers.
Chamois (brown tabby)- because when we were coming home with him there were a lot of insects on the windscreen and dh and I were joking about cleaning it with the kitten because the underside of his belly was just the same colour as a chamois.
Char - because she was grey like the ashes of a bonfire.
Splat (tortoiseshell)- an unfortunate name in the attempt to be funny. She died of a spider bite just before turning one.
Muggins (black)- dh named him, so I don't know.
Puck (Tuxedo - Muggin's brother) - after the character Puck in Midsummer Night's Dream.
DOGS
Troy (cattle dog) - Mum named her.
Rat (kelpie)- because he was the runt.
Doonie (kelpie)- don't know, just fitted, although Dad used to call him Doona and in some ways I think it fit even better because he was a great snuggler.
Shelby (kelpie) - after Shelby in Steel Magnolias
OTHER PETS
Snowy (white rabbit) - pretty obvious
Snowball (another white rabbit) - "
Guinea (brown and white guinea pig) - "
Cressie (anglo nubian goat) - Mum named her. We actually kept her inside in a playpen when we first got her because she was too small to put outside in the cold.
Tempest (axalotl) - because she was really nasty to anything else that we tried introducing to the tank.
Kylie

Thanks for a great response Kylie.. An axolotl. whow, I've always wanted one of those. But in the aquaria shop they were $30 each, and frugal me thought 'What if I only have it for a week and it dies?'
Forgot to add that my 2 current gold fish have names too. They are the black/gold/silver spotted kind and because I was in my 'weather' mode at the time, they are Storm and Equinox.
Ellie.

Good topic Ellie, love your names and Kylie's as well.
Okay, I have always picked very boring names for our pets (lol).
Jake and Mitch were named by our son. We had our hearts set on a female Border Collie and Leigh, wanted the name Jake, be it a boy or girl. Poor girl. We decided later to get another Border Collie and Mitch was his choice as well, after an NBA basketballer called Mitch Richmond or Redmond (I've long forgotten the correct last name). Was around the time in Australia that the NBA basketball cards that the kids swapped were all the rage.
Abby - just because I have always liked that name and being a British Shorthair sounded like a British name (lol).
Ted - the breeder said that Ted was "not the brightest boy and had nicknamed him Jethro from the Beverley Hillbillies" but we chose Ted after Ted Bullpitt from the old series on in the 70's called Kingswood Country. He was quick thick and very big. Rob wanted to call Ted - Tank but I wouldn't let him (lol).
Leigh our son was named after a friend from high school that we both liked as we couldn't agree on names that we both liked and went through our high school friends names (lol).
We called our last cat, Jessie just because I like the name.
Rastus, a previous boy because he was quite naughty and the name seemed to suit him.

Just because I liked the names my children from oldest to youngest:Michael-Darlene-Kevin-Kerry-Darrell-Curtis and Cynthia ...let me see..is that 7 ..yes it is !
I wanted 4 boys come hell or high water..doubles up on the twins so thats 5 boys..and my 2 girls..I loved and enjoyed every minute of growing up with them..yes growing up with them because I wasn't quite 18 when I had my first baby. When the boys got in their teens for a while they were hesident to go out with me because people would think I was their girl friend. That used to make me laugh!!
When the children wanted a "talk"session they would say"mom lets have a game of scrabble"we had many talks while playing scrabble. Each of my children had a "late night with mom"seven nights in a week so each had one night alone with mom..one late night a week never hurt their school work and we had such a wonderful time.My children kept up the tradition of a late night with their children although non of them had more than 2 children. We lived in a big 13 room house "now sold"Hubby had a good paying job so they never "wanted"for anything..oh what wonderful times those were!
