Subject: RAIN, RAIN (mud, slush, floods erosion.......HOORAY)

Well, it finally happened- we got WET! last Fri. ,just on dark, it pelted down- 20 mm.(80 points) in just 20 mins.
even tho they'r all sandy, Our roads became rivers, they overflowed, and the water came racing into the yard!I was oiut with a shovel digging drains to try and keep the water away from the house, whil;e it sounded a bit like Niagara Falls- there were sheets of water about 100 mtrs wide pouring down the bare hills, following old tracks or hollows- it was amazing- the noise was the scariest- ,"cause I couldn't really see all that far, and didn't know how much more was coming. Of course the "man of the house" is away for 2 weeks trying to earn some money, so it was just me and an old shovel, thanking God profusely for the rain, but pleading for a bit less of a "dump"!!
Mum was inside, as she's not been well, but I did drag her out to see the roads "running a banker"! last time something similar happened was 12 yrs. ago, and although there was more rain, there was a lot of grass growing, so we didn't get the run-off effect.( it was also Summer, and daylight- much more pleasant)
We went on to receive nearly 40 mm over the next few days, and although there are still ducks swimming along a couple of clay tracks, and most of our roads are useless( they're more like holes), things are drying out. There's green everywhere, frogs, dung beetles, even the odd mushroom!Absolutely delightful!!!
I couldn't get to work, as the roads were flooded- so that's why there were no posts.
In that vein- I picked up my computer(YAY!!!) last week, now all we have to do is get hooked up to the "net", and I'll annoy you all during the week as well!!LOL. We've never had one , so apart from being poorer, we will be on a learning curve! It will be so nice, tho' to access all sorts of info- we are somewhat isolated, so this will be a big help. Evn our mail is not each day- Mon. and Thurs. we get mail, and if it's wet we can't drive the 6.5 kms to collect it from our mailbox!!
The new puppies are now in an outside pen, and eating puppy food- at 4 weeks- they are very cute!
Ok- that's my news... bye

So glad you got rain-even if it was all at once..we are on our 16th day without rain which is extremely rare for us as is our 16th day of 95 to 101 degree heat..which just about melts me so I have been in the lake or at the ocean most of the daylight hours or cooling off in the bathtub..hubby has a bad cold so I can't have the air conditioning on at home here but I have air cond.in my trailer at the lake and of course in my car.Just think of me as a polar bear in an Australian summer-lol
Would love to see the puppies-bet they are cute!

I'm so glad to hear you got rain. Now a couple of weeks for that grass to grow and a couple of days of nice steady rain would be wonderful.

Hi Dudo, that will be great having your own computer at home now. Yes, we had lots of rain as well and were out the back with brooms, swishing the water away from the back door. It's been the first day today that we've (or at least the pickers) have been able to pick oranges. Has been lovely yesterday and today.
The puppies sound really cute and I haven't been able to find anyone looking for a pup at this stage.

Tina, you seem to be getting the opposite of us with the heat, hopefully it will get cooler soon and some rain as well.
