What can you say? Judges reward experience and those three girls did very well at State last year. I went to the pageant assuming they would be amongst the winners crowned. The Tomberlin girl was a pleasant surprise as I didn't consider her a sure thing before the pageant, but she definitely earned her title and will be a contender at State. Disappointed that Foley and Radar didn't win, but both just seem to be in a temporary slump.Lots of new contestants that just need a little more experience. -- Unofficial Miss NC Messageboard

I disagree about Tomberlin. While she grew significantly from her first title she won’t be winning NC. The 3 that beat her this past weekend and several others will beat her in all three prelims. She would have to get really blessed and end up in a very weak group to come out on top. Possible top 10 but that would mean several others would have to all be off their game on the same night (also very possible) Foley was completely off her game anyone that’s seen her compete over the years would probably agree. She’s also aging out and definitely is very mature perhaps not working in her favor either (just a fact we all age and it’s just part of it) my top 10 list is made in pencil of course since we have a few more prelims to go although in my heart I believe the winner is already a title holder and won’t come from the remaining prelims. Additionally the judges that will be selected for state will have a very different mindset than the judges for LN/Ballentyne and will be charged differently I would imagine. That will also factor in. Rader not winning one of the four I think is also similar to Foley. Rader is very mature and is about to age out of teen. I can see her doing very well in the Miss category if she goes that route. Her talent continues to improve and she’s a worker. If a title is what she’s wants she will go get it. Although I was left scratching my head just a smidge on the teen outcome. Had to be interview that shifted that around I was not expecting that outcome. The 3 repeats were not a surprise at all and at least two will probably be Top 5 again.
