2 Cor. 8

By Jstakid:

14.
But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
15. As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

I think this principle must have a spiritual application, I mean I don't think it applies just to money, do you?

No, I don't think it only applies to money. It can also apply to sharing God's word. We can also take the example of the American farmers where people came together, helping each other out, among other examples as well.

This also goes back to the word that the Lord gave to Moses. And there is a spiritual application we can apply:

Exodus 16:
16.
This is the thing which the Lord commanded, Gather of it ( manna ) every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man according to his eating.

( Not too much, not too little. )

17.
And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less
18.
And when they did meet it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

( They consumed it. They absorbed the manna ( God's Word ) at their own pace. )

19.
And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.

( In a spiritual sense, absorb it. The Word. )

I think we can also apply Matt 25:14-30. Where, whether one was given two talents, or five talents, each was given according to their individual ability. Those that worked with what they had received exactly the same reward. God is always fair.

Then there's ....................

Proverbs 3
9. Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase. 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

( God will bless you, when you bless Him. )

Jstakid:
There was a way to share the bread of heaven in the camp so that everyone was full, even though some gathered more than others. Is this possible in Christianity today, or is there a way to make it more possible?

The bread of Heaven to me is the treasure of the understanding of the Word of God. Christ being the living Word. This question, again, takes me back to Matt.25:14-30. )

Jstakid:
let me know if I am asking too many questions, I don't want to side track the purpose of this thread, a verse with a comment works really well in this form of communication.

It's great to have you. Questions are good. I always enjoy your commentary.

[B]2 Cor 8
16
But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

( God sends who He will. )

17
For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.

( He was willing and didn't hold back. Keep in mind the examples being set for us to follow. )

18
And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;

( The brother is probably Luke who was Paul's penmen. )

A side note

The gospel, as it's put here, is in connection with 2 Cor.4:4.
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ Who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

From appendex 140 of Companion Bible...... speaking of "The Gospel" ................

This is connected with Christ's exaltation as Head over all things to His church, which is revealed more fully in Pauls Epistles. ( Eph.1:21-23, Phil.2:9-11, Col.1:14-19 ) . It not only involves the present glory of Messiah, but includes the final defeat of Satan, the crushing of his head, and subjugation of all spiritual beings, be they powers, principalities, authorities, dominions, etc....
Hence, it is Satan's great aim now, at this present time, to blind the eyes of them that believe not, so that they may not learn of his coming defeat, as being foretold in Gen.3:15, and seen fulfilled in Rev.20.
Knowing his ( Satan's ) object, and being "not ignorant of his devises", we know also what should be our own object, which is making known this good news ( the gospel ) which he would seek to hide; and proclaiming "the Gospel of the Glory of Christ".

2 Cor.2:8 continued:
19
And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

( He was there to water and absorb the seeds that were planted. )

20
Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:

( In the tithing etc. )

21
Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

( This was one of the reasons they went out two by two. For security and honesty. )

22
And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you. 23Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

( This is quite a recommendation from Paul. )

24
Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.

( Receive them as they received Paul, and they will give. These were true messengers. )
