Subject: OT: Huskerfan (another option for your 1 pound skeins of yarn)

Hi Linda~

I thought of you saying you needed to go out of your way to find the 3 Liter Soda Bottles to make the Yarn Holder.

Here's another idea for your 1 pound skein of yarn. A little different from using a soda bottle.

I just happened to have an Oatmeal Container and it's jumbo size 42 ounces and looks to be the perfect size for the 1 pound skein of yarn.

Although I still think the 3 Liter Soda Bottle is a neater project and less mess than the Oatmeal Container.

Here's the link:

I could try the oatmeal container til I get the bottle. I did go and get a 2 liter bottle so I will have it when I am ready. I do have a lot of oatmeal containers. Thanks for the idea. It might be way easier than winding the whole pound into a ball.

Hi Linda~

You're Quite Welcome.

I've got to tell you the Soda Bottle is working like a charm. I'm on the lookout now for a smaller bottle to make up for the Peaches & Cream yarn...that's how much I like the soda bottle yarn holder!

I sure hope your weekend trip will find the big 3 Liter Bottle for your 1 pound skein of yarn. You'll be amazed how nice it works and no hassle with the yarn.

Good Luck this Weekend...Hugs~ Joann

P.S.:
We're both going on an adventure this weekend (I think the Juice Aisle and of course the Soda Aisle!)
Here's hoping we accomplish our "Mission!"

I get Country Time lemonade in a big (oatmeal-type) container at Wal-Mart. It holds 5 lbs 2.5 oz and is very sturdy cardboard with a snap-on plastic lid. I think it would work, too.
I know our new Sam's Club has the same CT lemonade containers, too, and it's a couple dollars cheaper at Sam's.

Great ideas, all. Thought I would throw out an idea or 2. How about those plastic ice cream containers? Are they tall enough to hold a cone of that cotton yarn?

Years ago, I bought a hand-operated yarn winder. It makes a flat round (sort of like a round bale of hay). The balls would fit nicely in a 2 liter, I believe. For those of us who use a lot of yarn, a yarn-winder is a great time-saver. (((hugs)))

Jazz do you know where I could find one of the yarn winders or a pic and maybe my dh could make me one. I do wind a lot of yarn. Thanks for the Ice cream bucket idea. I will have to get some ice cream to get a bucket. What a great excuse.
Joann do you use the large cones of cotton yarn?

Hi Linda~

I use the small ball peaches & cream 2.5 oz size.

Go to Google and type in Yarn Winders...it comes up with a lot of them and just maybe there will be something your husband could make for you.

Looks like we both have really "handy" husbands...I'm always finding something for Jack to make for me too. A while back he made me a Pom-Pom Winder from a photo I found on Google and it worked really good..long time ago I was making yarn bundles for a wreath..took like 150 of them for the wreath. You had to wind the yarn 20 times around a 4 inch piece of cardboard and it was a chore. The yarn winder made this much easier.

Good Luck!.....Hugs~ Joann
